Welcome to the first blog post on my site – I really appreciate you stopping by.

Since most of the quilts I create come from leftover or "scrap" fabric, it felt fitting to kick off my blog with my latest Scrappity quilt.

I stitch small random bits of fabric onto paper (A4 paper cut in half lengthwise, like a hot dog, not a burger!) As I have been making these for a while I have quite the collection, but I wasn't sure what to do next. I call these my "Scrappy Crumb Sheets."

When I laid them out, it looked a bit too wild for my taste, so I thought using them as sashing would help break up the colour chaos.

I used a 6" finished (6 1/2" unfinished) Economy Block FPP (foundation paper piecing) pattern as the centerpiece, adding black sashing, and then incorporated the scrappy crumb sheets. This created a block measuring 18"x18". They came together surprisingly quickly, so I ended up making six of them. I connected the six blocks using more dark scrap sashing and finished the quilt with additional scrappy crumb sheets.

I loaded it onto the longarm and decided to mix free motion and ruler work for the quilting. I designed a pattern that I could repeat and quilted it out, changing the top thread color based on the section I was working on.

With some leftover backing fabric, I made a binding, machine-stitched it to the back, and then added a decorative stitch to finish it off from the front.

Time for a short nap after a quick quality control inspection.

....and finally the finished quilt :o)
